ALS TDI Treatment Targets

ALS, like most diseases, has a cascade of problems which occur in a specific order. Many of these problems occur in systems that can be mapped much like an electrical diagram. The lines on this diagram are frequently referred to as biochemical pathways. Many of the components in these biochemical pathways can be modified with drugs or gene/cell therapies.

We refer to these intervention points as potential treatment "targets" and track them in a database. Each potential treatment has one or more targets which can be used to assist in classifying and selecting drugs. Targets can be divided into more broad target classes—a helpful grouping system for deciding which drugs are considered the best in their respective class and therefore warrant prioritized testing.
